Today I was reminded that old online chats offered context awareness for the people online: you knew you won't be a bother to a friend who has a smiley flower as a status; and you knew you might not be getting a quick reply from someone who's Away.
Today I don't even know if my friends are online or not. The messenger apps make the assumption that everyone is online, and if not, they will receive a push notification, and will reply to you as soon as possible. But this assumption is barely true. I bet it makes lives harder, especially for ND people

they're only made for consumption of corpo content, they do not allow the user to explore, tinker, learn. if all you have is a phone, you cannot learn it's workings, you cannot learn how to create new applications for it, you can only *consume* what is already made for you
if you want to create something new, to learn how your device work, you better be able to afford a separate, often more expensive computer, to do that. you can't? outta luck kiddo

Closest next thing I have in mind is HANA (Lenovo Chromebook 300e MTK with useless MT8173 SoC (due to lack of GX6250 drivers and awfully slow development on PowerVR rogue).
It's 11.6in and has chonker battery, rugged chassis, nice keyboard and weights nothing. I'm contemplating between running bare tmux on it, or pulling a gamer move to replace stock SoC with RK3588
under no circumstances you should touch it, but we have leaked drivers for powervr: github.com/a1batross/img-gpu-1…
not sure what they're useful for, as it was taken from one particular device that has GX6650
