BMW возродила легенду: M3 GTR из Need for Speed в реальности

Maybe already a bit too much going on for #minimalism but I really love the simplicity of the scene.
I'm going to add it to my #pristineWinter collection, soon.
I took it about a year ago on my first #winter snowshoe hike. I hope you can feel the silence. 🙂

Thinking about making my own lemmy client, but I could use some feedback
Here are the problems I want to solve:
The same app everywhere
It will run as a website, iOS app (also on macOS), and Android app. It will be responsive, supporting phone, tablet, and computer screen sizes along with everything in between.
And I’m not talking about simply resizing the interface. Navigation (e.g. sidebar or on mobile bottom tab bar) will match what you would expect to see on the device size you’re using. But everything else (e.g. posts) will look the same, which I hope will make it really easy to jump from mobile to desktop.
Onboarding and configuration
The app will allow you to configure it to look like a typical Reddit or Lemmy app. During the onboarding process, I will prompt you, asking which style of interface you prefer. Consider these presets, which change a bunch of more granular configuration options. I will also give you the ability to fully customize each option instead of picking a preset.
Caching and offline support
This is where it starts to get more tricky. Caching is easy. If you launch the app, it will have everything you previously saw still loaded.
I would like to make it so upvoting, for example, can be done offline. The app will optimistically apply the upvote to the post or comment, then when you reconnect to the internet, it will actually apply the upvote. This is a difficult problem to solve, so I can’t promise this will work, and it would likely be the last feature I add.
I need your feedback
This is a big project to undertake. I really want a Lemmy client that checks those boxes for myself, but I’m curious if any of those resonate with you? Is there anything I missed that you would like to see? If I do build this, I will likely have to keep the project very focused as far as features go initially.
Just for context, I’m using Voyager on iOS currently. I really like it, but the “the same app everywhere” concept and making it easier to onboard Reddit users are my main motivations for creating my own app. My app will also be fully open source

Yet another for your auditory consideration. Old school Russian black metal band Old Wainds with a release as icy as the name suggests. First release in 10 years. No fancy frills, just melancholy bitter black metal.

[...]because nearly everyone who speaks English is a capitalised pronouns user. I. The subject form of the first person pronoun. While it’s not a matter of importance to most people, it is still the proper form used in legal documents and anything else that needs to be done “correctly”. And it got that way because someone, at some point in history, felt their pronoun ought to be capitalised and convinced everyone else to generally agree.
This is as far as I got. That isn't why we capitalise "I", as others have pointed out, and if the argument held true then we'd capitalise "Me" as well, which we don't in English.
You've clearly thought about this enough that anything I say isn't going to change your mind, so I'm just addressing the actual argument being made in that opening paragraph because it's categorically incorrect. I'm not going to bother reading the rest because I'm bored already. You might as well try to fight the tide on stuff like this.
I say that as someone who got tired of people shortening their name and instead changed their name to one that cannot be shortened because it's the only effective way to accomplish the objective.

How to buy shoes in the fediverse
how to buy shoes in the fediverse
It's hard to get settled into the fediverse for a set of distinct but interlocking reasons, starting with "How do I pick a server?"Erin Kissane (wreckage/salvage)
like this
For some reason I read the first part of the article in 60s news commentator voice in my head.
Also
For those potential members who’ve somehow figured out what they need from a server, it's hard to understand which servers actually offer those things, either from outside the fediverse itself or from inside it but without a strong network.
Really important point.
like this
The drive to be a parity product with centralized social media keeps the biggest platforms on the fediverse looking like knock-offs of the most popular commercial platforms that "don't work right". Mastodon being "distributed Twitter" is always going to be limited, because distribution is complicated, jankey, and kind of confusing. And because someone is always going to make a new, centralized, corporate Twitter replacement.
The fediverse cannot win on ease-of-use. In a straight comparison, it's never going to be easier to use. Even if it becomes quasi-centralized (which has been the trend), there are a lot of highly active users who are on alternative platforms, who will never end up on masto.soc or the .worlds.
The current paradigm -- which is mostly being driven by Mastodon, AFAICT -- is platforms with bundled-in default web clients that lack any meaningful customization. There seems to be little selection of, or appetite for, custom themes, and 3rd party clients remain similarly utilitarian. There's very little way for site admins to present any kind of character or set any kind of tone with visual elements. This appears to be purposeful, as it's both a way to provide value to the 'Mastodon' brand, and to encourage the genericization of any given Mastodon-based website, leading to the impression that they're completely interchangeable, and commodifying the thousands of independent small social networking and media sites that make up the fediverse.
As attempted parity platforms, the question of "which server do I sign up on?" is nonsensical. From the end-users perspective, if this is emulating centralized social media, it has already failed. If there's no meaningful distinction between nodes on a homogenized network, I shouldn't have to make this choice. It's weird I'm being asked to do something.
On the other hand, if the fediverse is construct of independently operating small social spaces that just happen to be able to cross-communicate, then there's no reason for them to all look the fucking same. But then we can't "market" "Lemmy" or "Mastodon", because Lemmy and Mastodon are not discrete and containable things like Twitter and Reddit are. They're technologies that power liminal spaces, like Apache HTTP Servers, or WordPress installations are. Imagine trying to sell the World Wide Web to people by having literally every website on it look exactly the same, and trying to get them to 'join Joomla!'.
We can't market a hundred large, generic Lemmy instances, each with c/Politics, c/News, c/VideoGames, etc. on them. We especially can't do that while trying to hold it up as a singular Reddit clone.
The fediverse is not centralized social media. If it's going to have real value and staying power, it's not going to look like centralized social media.
It can't.
It will just get eaten alive by the next shiny, proprietary, VC backed social mobile app if it tries.

Too many of the same mods is bad for Fediverse
I'm seeing patterns and likeliness that I find on Reddit, to be happening on here on Lemmy. Too many of the same moderators and some of the ones that enact comment removals and everything seem to inflict one party but not the others.
That's just bad moderating. So, okay, you removed a comment of mine for incivility. But you allow the clear responses after my comment to stay there, that also is just as uncivil.
Because that makes about as much sense as the way things are moderated over in Reddit, right?
Please tell me I'm not wasting my time on the Fediverse if this is how things are going to be. Bad enough that moderators seem to have selective attention spans in regards to what is posted on the instances that they allow. Repetitious stuff that clutters the magazines when we want to read something new.
If this is the case, I mind as well go back to ban evading whack-a-mole with Reddit.
like this
And the same goes for communities too. Unlike Reddit, people here (like me:-) continually browse by "All", and will find posts as they come out, plus there are communities literally dedicated to letting people know what communities are out there.
Counterpoint: mods here are doing heroic work by holding up all of Lemmy, even though (reportedly? I am not a mod here myself) the mod tools here suck ass, especially across instances. It can't be an easy job.
It's also unpaid labor, and exposes them to things like CSAM or other nastiness that I for one would not want to have to wade through. Sure, nobody is perfect, yet if OP wants to volunteer then let them, but why the shade at these unpaid volunteers donating their time to keep us all happy?
